The project is focused on the mechanisms and regulation of gene expression in the Archaea, specifically on the coupling of transcription and translation, a holistic study from the molecular- to the genome-scale level. The team includes a biochemist (functional in vitro assays and beyond), a structural biologist (cryoEM and cryoET), and a systems biologist (functional genomics). The three will work as a closely knit team in a multidisciplinary fashion, taking ownership of their project while happy to collaborate with each other. The program is generously funded by a Wellcome Trust Discovery Award, initially with 4-year contracts and extendable up to 8 years.
