Biologist post doc – Vrije Universiteit Brussel

A postdoc position is open in the Biology Department at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel . Prospective researchers from all nationalities are encouraged to apply.

The position is funded by an ERC starting grant, with an initial 1-year contract and can be renewed for up to 4-5 years. Help will be provided in applying for independent postdoc funding too. 

The candidate for this hire will work on a project that aims to understand the evolution and genomic signature of (undifferentiated and differentiated) sex chromosomes between female (i.e. ZW/ZZ) and male heterogametic (i.e. XX/XY) systems in various frog species, using comparative and functional genomics, population genetics, molecular evolution, cytogenetics and fieldwork sampling approaches. 

The successful candidate should have (or soon to have) a Ph.D. and experience in genomics, genetics, evolution, and bioinformatics. Experience with high-throughput sequencing, large genome assembly, transcriptomic and genomic data analysis and a good level of programming are preferred.
